Welcome to the GirlguidingArgyll Website

Elaine Kelly, County Commissioner

CtyComm1

I began in Guiding twenty four years ago, as a Unit Helper in 1st Dunoon Brownies when our older daughter Morag enrolled - a very common entry method to a long career, as many of you will be very aware!

In the time since then I have served as Brownie Leader, taken on various other roles in the local Cowal area, as well as being County Pack Holiday Adviser, and, most recently, Guiding Development Adviser.

As County Commissioner I am responsible for the management and development of Guiding in Argyll. This is achieved by establishing, leading and maintaining a team to ensure we deliver high quality Guiding.

Helping me achieve these aims are my Assistant County Commissioner Stella McIver, our County Training Team and the County Executive. Together, by supporting each other, and utilising this network of various skills and experiences, we can promote an active Guiding programme for everyone and encourage good use of all the resources.

Argyll is physically one of the largest counties in Scotland with its guiding units generally widely scattered, but in spite of this seeming geographical isolation, in human terms it is small and friendly. Our goal must be to keep it that way by involving everyone.

We live in exciting times. The Centenary is just around the corner, the new Go! database is up and running, and other changes take us forward all the time. We have to be flexible, all-inclusive and above all we have to ensure that we do our utmost to make Guiding the most enjoyable and enriching experience for all our members.
